Tomato Powder is for More Than Emergencies

Tomato powder is one of the foods I recently I purchased, that are marketed for the preparedness movement. That is not actually the reason I purchased these products. It is because I use them. I buy certain products for the times I run out of certain foods and I have the dehydrated ones to fall back on. I purchased my products from Emergency Essentials, but they would not approve my blog to be an affiliate associate. So I am putting all my links to other products on Amazon instead. Their choice.

Tomato Powder is one of the best dehydrated foods I buy. I love it and I use it often. If you cannot grow your own tomatoes for some reason, and I haven’t been able to in recent years, due to the Late Blight. Then this is a good option. It takes only a few tablespoons in some water to make an delicious tomato sauce. I have used it to flavor soups too, by just putting the powder right into the soup pot. It is very flavorful and tastes like a fresh picked tomato. I kid you, not!

If you needed tomato sauce very quickly for some reason, for a pizza topping or another dish, whipping up a little tomato sauce with some water and tomato powder would take you all of about five minutes at the most. I like to use it on meatballs or ground beef and onions. I never purchase the dehydrated foods that are already made into a certain dish. We tried those and didn’t really care for them. They are like eating processed foods. I like to use the tomato powder as an ingredient in my own homemade meals.

These foods are available in a smaller can as well as this size. And you can purchase them from Emergency Essentials by the case and get a cheaper price. They can be stored indefinitely, so they are well worth buying by the case. It says they should be kept in a cool place and for most people that would be a basement. If you live in an area that floods though, you may want to consider another area. These cans are sealed and the water probably would not get through. But for myself, I wouldn’t want to eat anything that had been sitting in flood waters. Flood waters are contaminated and just handling the cans would be risky at best. Make a safe place to store your supplies and you should be okay. Good luck!

Buying Groceries Online

Online Orders

Buying groceries online sounds like such a new concept. It isn’t though. I remember buying our cat and dog food online and Federal Express would deliver it the next day. I shop regularly from Alice and like the convenience of placing an order and it arriving a few days later. Sometimes it comes two days later. I am really pleased with them and their superior customer service. Update 2015: Alice went out of business, unfortunately. I was very disappointed to say the least. I guess they were offering buyers too good a deal and they lost money until they could not keep going.

I have recently bought foods online from Amazon. It may not have the best buy as far as per can or package,  but it was convenient and available. Some varieties of foods are not found in my local store but are available online somewhere. Amazon has a “Subscribe & Save” deal where you order the particular food and subscribe. Then you receive it every so many times a year and you pay less. That is usually their best deal. Update 2015: Amazon now has their Prime Pantry for Prime subscribers. This is a good deal and will help you stock up with the least amount of shipping fees. It sure makes buying groceries online so much easier. You just add them to your pantry box as you need them and when your box is full they will let you know. Then you buy.

It saves money as far as not having to buy gas and drive to town. Not to mention time! Oh boy, buying groceries online is such a time saver for me! Not having to deal with those busy stores. I love to shop from home! Update 2015: This year I have added Walmart to my online shopping list. They will ship to your house for free if you order fifty dollars worth………..well who can shop at Walmart without spending fifty dollars?
